HUA HIN AREA GUIDE

Khao Takiab & Kite Beach

Golden Buddha on a temple hill above the sea

Khao Takiab, affectionately known as Monkey Mountain, marks the southern end of Hua Hin beach with a hilltop temple, panoramic sea views and a long, breezy shoreline that draws kitesurfers in the windy season.

Monkey Mountain and its temple

Khao Takiab is a rocky headland topped by a Buddhist temple and a tall standing Buddha figure that looks out over the Gulf of Thailand. You can climb the steps or take the road to the top, where the views back along Hua Hin beach are superb. The hill is home to a large troop of resident macaques, which are entertaining but cheeky, so keep a firm hold of bags, sunglasses, food and phones, and avoid feeding them. It is an easy half-day trip from our beach suites or villas.

Kite Beach and watersports

The long stretch of sand running south from Khao Takiab is one of Thailand’s best-known kitesurfing spots. During the windy season, roughly January to March, steady breezes fill the sky with colourful kites, and several schools offer lessons and equipment hire for beginners and experienced riders alike. Even if you are not riding, it is a spectacular beach for a walk. Wind conditions vary day to day, so check current conditions and prices before you book a session.

Seafood and the fishing village

At the foot of the mountain sits a small fishing community with a cluster of seafood restaurants, many perched over the water. It is a fine spot to reward yourself after the climb with a fresh lunch. For more dining ideas across the area, browse our Hua Hin food guide.

Make a day of the south end

Khao Takiab pairs perfectly with a weekend evening at the nearby Cicada Market, so you can spend the afternoon on the hill and beach and the evening among arts, crafts and live music. Our concierge team can help plan the timing and transport.

Getting there from Bayside 19

Khao Takiab is about 7 km south of Soi Hua Hin 19, roughly a 15 minute drive. The green songthaew that runs along the beach road is a cheap and easy option, or take a Grab or scooter from the villas.
