Sam Roi Yot National Park, the Mountain of Three Hundred Peaks, is the most rewarding day trip from Hua Hin, famous for the light-filled Phraya Nakhon Cave, its royal pavilion, and sweeping viewpoints over limestone hills and marshland.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Phraya Nakhon Cave<\/h2>\n\n\n

The park’s signature sight is Phraya Nakhon Cave, a vast collapsed cavern open to the sky. At its centre stands Kuha Karuhas, an ornate royal pavilion built for a visit by King Rama V. On a clear morning, shafts of sunlight pour through the opening and light the pavilion in gold, a scene that has become one of Thailand’s most photographed. Reaching the cave involves a short boat ride or beach walk followed by a steep uphill trail, so wear good shoes and bring water. Aim for mid-morning when the light is at its best. Marshland, wildlife and viewpoints<\/h2>\n\n\n

Beyond the cave, Sam Roi Yot protects an important coastal wetland. Its freshwater marsh is a haven for birdlife, and boardwalks and observation towers let you spot herons, egrets and migratory species, especially in the cooler months. Several coastal viewpoints reward a short climb with panoramas of jagged limestone peaks rising straight from the sea. Bring binoculars if you have them, and a hat and sunscreen for the exposed trails.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Because the park is an hour or so south of Hua Hin, an early start makes the most of the day and the morning light in the cave.
